• How often do I need to get my chimney swept? The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) states that all chimneys should be inspected and cleaned at least once per year.
• I have a gas fireplace. Do I need this? You don't get creosote, but you still need an annual inspection. Birds can build nests in the flue, and a blockage can cause dangerous carbon monoxide to vent back into your home.
• I only use my fireplace a few times a year. Am I good? Even a few fires can create a dangerous "glazed" creosote, especially if you burn unseasoned wood. The "once-a-year" rule is for safety, regardless of use.
